Mage Spell Rotation

World of Warcraft Mage Spell Rotation for Cataclysm: Frost, Fire, and Arcane

Arcane Leveling Rotation

It isn’t too hard, when you get Arcane Blast, use it until Missiles proc. You won’t get Mage Armor until level 68 so until then what armor you use is in your discretion. When you get Mana shield at level 46, use it all the time unless you begin to have Mana problems. Blink is your friend! Don’t forget to have Arcane Intellect up and running. (There is a nice AddOn for reminding you to put on your buffs which can be found HERE)

Arcane PvP Rotation

PvP Rotations are more about your personal playing style and the situation. It is essential that after you die you don’t forget to recast Arcane Intellect and your mage armor of preference. If you take Incanter’s Absorption it is imperative that you always remember to put up Mana Shield or Mage Ward. Polymorph is a good skill for a 3 second stun if you want to stun the enemy, activate all your cooldowns, and blast them away.

Arcane Raiding Rotation

Unfortunately, at this time the Arcane Raiding build is extremely difficult because you have to manage your mana perfectly to maximize your DPS being at or above 85% mana. Mage Armor is the easy armor of choice because of this.

The Burn Phase or High DPS Phase of Arcane is when all of your cooldowns are available to use including Evocation. ABspam until you reach around 40% mana and quickly go back to 100% mana via Mana Gems and Evocation.

The Conserative Phase is where you try to reach the highest DPS while maintaining the current mana percentage (mana is not going up or down). As your gear increases, you can add more AB to the rotation. Currently, pre-heroic gear was around 2x AB followed by Arcane Missiles if Proc’d or Arcane Barrage if not.

Don’t forget to have Arcane Intellect up and running. (There is a nice AddOn for reminding you to put on your buffs which can be found HERE)

Fire Leveling Rotation

The fire leveling rotation is simple, use Scorch when your low on mana, fireball otherwise, and use fire when you need a good instant cast. Pyroblast when you get a Hot Streak.

Don’t forget to have Arcane Intellect up and running. (There is a nice AddOn for reminding you to put on your buffs which can be found HERE)

Fire PvP Rotation

Living bomb is your friend, as well as Scorch and Fire Blast. In large PvP battles, a Blastwave followed by Flamestrike will hopefully give you an Impact and do a large amount of damage. Once you have Impact proc, and your target has Living Bomb, launch Fire Blast and watch the damage tick across your screen. Enjoy!

Don’t forget to have Arcane Intellect up and running. (There is a nice AddOn for reminding you to put on your buffs which can be found HERE)

Fire Raiding Rotation

“FIRE, FIRE, FIRE!
I’ve heard it is all the rage, but I’m worried about the rotation ... everyone tells me it’s difficult.”

If anyone tells you that this rotation is difficult -- laugh at them. It takes five to ten minutes bashing against a dummy and a heroic or two to be ready to raid using Fire. Thankfully you have this short and sweet guide on the rotation:

Living Bomb: Always on your target, but remember to let it expire before reapplying. (Click HERE for a nice AddOn to tell you when)
Flame Orb: Use it when you can
Pyroblast: Use when you get a Hot Streak
Scorch: Moving? Use it. Low on Mana? Use it. Beginning of a Fight? Use it once.
Fireball: This is filler spell, use it when you’re not casting any of the spells above.
Fire Blast: Absolutely fantastic for AoE. If you get Impact, and your target has Living Bomb like it should, Blast away and watch your living bomb travel to the enemies that are around your target.

Don’t forget to have Arcane Intellect up and running. (There is a nice AddOn for reminding you to put on your buffs which can be found HERE)

Frost Leveling Rotation

Have your pet up ALL of the time. Use Frostbolt on your targets until Fingers of Frost procs. When it does, use Ice Lance because you don’t get Deep Freeze until later. Be sure to utilize your pet’s freeze ability which gives you two Fingers of Frost procs to play with. When in doubt, use Frost Nova and Cone of Cold to freeze your enemies to get back a couple of steps – or just run for the hills.

Don’t forget to have Arcane Intellect up and running. (There is a nice AddOn for reminding you to put on your buffs which can be found HERE)

Frost PvP Rotation

Snare, Slow, and Freeze are the words that come to mind when using Frost to PvP. It is a lot of fun getting under the enemy’s skin by using Frost Nova, or Cone of Cold and then Deep Freezing them. After that you launch a couple Ice Lances for massive crits before Deep Freeze is up and finish them off with a Frostbolt. If it’s a caster why not silence them? I encourage you to try out Frost for PvP as it’s a blast and you can aggravate and kill your enemies before they have a chance to retaliate.

Don’t forget to have Arcane Intellect up and running. (There is a nice AddOn for reminding you to put on your buffs which can be found HERE)

Frost Raiding Rotation

I’ve found that most people are afraid of using Frost. You’re either Arcane or you’re fire. I can understand, that is the way it has been since the launch. On a daily basis I find myself convincing people that Frost isn’t half bad. The rotation of Frost seems to scare people but it is no worse than fire.

Frostfire Orb: Use when you can
Deep Freeze: Monster Crits on bosses, use when you have Fingers of Frost
Frostfire Bolt: Did your target drink a slushy too fast? Did they get a Brain Freeze? Launch a Frostfire Bolt at them, but make sure you don’t have Fingers of Frost.
Ice Lance: Nice sized crits, especially for an instant cast. Use when you can’t use Deep Freeze and Fingers of Frost is active.
Frostbolt: The filler spell, use when you’re not casting any of the above spells.
Use Molten Armor.

Don’t forget to have Arcane Intellect up and running. (There is a nice AddOn for reminding you to put on your buffs which can be found HERE)
